Christantus Uche Sparks Dominant Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.

Even though entering their first-ever European campaign, Oliver Glasner's side are adapting very quickly. Missing star figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a commanding win that all but secures them a place in the Europa Conference League playoffs.

A further three points in their next match against Finnish KuPS should be sufficient to seal direct passage to the knockout stages, especially after a prior setback against Strasbourg.

Squad Members Seize the Moment

This match offered a platform for several Palace's fringe players to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second beginning after arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a well-taken finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, finding the net for the second game in match.

A Shelbourne team that had finished their league season were no match even for a mostly second-string Palace outfit. The Londoners were already weakened by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are out with knee injuries.

Dominance Asserted from the Outset

In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A flowing passing sequence in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward tap-in.

Youngster Adam Wharton went close minutes later, fizzing a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah subsequently appealed for a penalty after racing into the box, but the official dismissed the appeals.

Ex-Arsenal striker didn't need to wait long to find his goal, tapping home from a yard out after Uche's effort had hit the post.

Shelbourne were hanging on desperately. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to escape a booking for two robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the woodwork with a powerful header from a corner.

Yeremy Pino Wraps Up the Contest

The match was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some comically weak challenges before calmly slotting a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.

Following the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to withdraw key players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse almost scoring with his first touch, but saw his shot blocked.

Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off both posts before being gathered on the line. Uche then missed a glaring chance, showing there is still scope for improvement in his game.

The only concern for Palace was a second-half injury to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This paved the way for 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, capping an otherwise positive evening for the visiting side.
